HISTORY:
The dream
of a Southern Baptist Church in the Proctorville – Rome Area began on
May 13, 1971 when the Ironton Baptist Chapel surveyed the area. A
Vacation Bible School was held on July 12 – 16, 1971 with a revival
following during August 18 – 21, 1971.
Lamar
O’Bryant served as evangelist. In 1973, with three members, a Bible
study was started in the community with Sharon Baptist Church, Ironton
as sponsor. In 1975 the work was able to move into a rented building.
This new work was then called Fairland Southern Baptist Chapel. In 1977
Sharon Baptist Church purchased the present property on State Route 7
for the mission. The two-story house was remodeled. The Fairland
Southern Baptist Church constituted on June 14, 1981 with 27 members.
In 1990 ground breaking was held for a new educational addition. This
was completed in 1996. During 2002 the mortgage was paid off. A steeple
was erected on the church in 2004. The church is in the process of
purchasing four lots next to the church for parking and future growth.
Fairland
Southern Baptist Church has been actively involved in ministry
throughout the Proctorville area.
